Gap/Void

Gap/Void pairs Automatisme, the Montreal producer William Jourdain, with Swiss field recorder Stefan Paulus for a remarkable blend of rhythmic electronics and ambient drone. The album opens with five rhythm-driven tracks shaped by Jourdain's interstitial digital synthesis, followed by five Paulus-ambient pieces reworked by Automatisme, creating a seamless, psychogeographically inclined journey. Released May 20, 2022 on Constellation Records, Gap/Void draws on Paulus's field recordings from the Swiss Alps, the Caucasus, and the Arctic Circle and recontextualizes them through Automatisme’s modular textures. Together, the duo reimagines a coastline of sound where sample-based techno meets layered ambient textures, delivering an immersive experience that travels from brisk, percussive routes to vast, atmospheric drones.
