Michael Holroyd's two-volume study of the century's most controversial biographer is based on the vast mass of his personal letters and papers. In this revised edition the text has been reorganized, and the chapters which mainly or entirely concern Strachey's life, family and friends will be found in "Lytton Strachey: A Biography", published simultaneously. In this volume are assembled the chapters of critical analysis and comment on "Eminent Victorians", "Queen Victoria", "Elizabeth and Essex" and his other writings.

Binding of book is tight. Slight signs of wear and tear on covers, more evident on back cover. Spine is slightly faded. Tanning around edges of book, with some foxing and shelfwear. Also stamps on top and bottom edges. Moderate foxing on insides of covers. Stamps on first page of book. Some tanning of margins of pages, otherwise in good condition. Plates are intact.
